New Counseling Program for Seniors

Posted in: Accreditations

A new outpatient counseling program for senior adults began in August at Burleson, Grimes and Madison St. Joseph Health Centers.

St. Joseph Senior Renewal is designed to assist senior adults in coping with life changes, such as: adjusting to retirement, health and mental health concerns, physical limitations or grief and loss.  The program seeks to be an environment where clients can share thoughts and feelings related to stress in their lives and learn to manage stress, sadness and nervousness.

“We provide an opportunity for confidential counseling and support,” said Reed Edmundson, Regional Administrator for Grimes and Madison St. Joseph Health Centers.  “The goal of Senior Renewal is to give senior adults and in some cases, their families, strategies to walk through these life changes and bring back hope.”

Clients may attend one day a week or up to three times a week as needed.  The program is open Monday through Friday; staff includes a medical doctor, licensed counselors, a nurse and health technician.  The program is covered by Medicare part B and secondary insurance.

For those without transportation, Senior Renewal can coordinate assistance.  Specially-equipped vans are available for those who need wheelchair access or other accommodations.  The program also provides lunch.

Clients may refer themselves or be referred by physicians, family, nursing centers and senior centers.
