Effective immediately, we are restricting all visitors from entering our long term care facilities out of an abundance of caution. No visitors will be allowed to enter our skilled nursing and rehab centers or assisted living at this time.

St. Joseph Health offers comprehensive care for senior adults. Our long-term care staff is dedicated to providing care for the body, mind, and spirit. We work hard to ensure that the people we serve can live as independently as possible while protecting their health and safety.

What is skilled care?

Skilled care is healthcare given or managed by a registered nurse (RN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN) based on your physician’s plan of care.

In long term care communities, trained professionals provide needed services due to an injury or illness, or because of a chronic disease or illness that cannot be managed at home.

Long term care facilities provide:

• Pharmaceutical, laboratory and radiology services
• Social and educational activities
• Laundry services
• Limited transportation
• End-of-life or hospice care
• Respite care

How is long term care paid for?

Coverage for long term care and skilled nursing care varies based on an individual’s need. There are several options available for covering the cost of these services, and understanding them all can be overwhelming. Our team of financial specialists can explain your options and even help you complete the paperwork. Here are a few ways that our patients have been able to cover the cost of long term care.

• Medicaid—State and Federal program that has medical and financial requirements
• Medicare—requires a need for skilled care
• Private pay
• Long term care insurance - each policy has different criteria for coverage
