Meet Our Breast Program Leadership Committee

Our Breast Program at St. Joseph Health has been accredited by the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), assuring that it is held to the highest standards of care for patients with diseases of the breast. As part of the NAPBC, our physicians and ancillary team members are held to NAPBC standards, and each patient receives the best individualized treatment available to them based on their needs and their specific cancer diagnosis.

As the only NAPBC accredited center in the Brazos Valley, we conveniently deliver the highest level of care to patients in the Brazos Valley.

Chair

Scott Goble, MD, Radiation Oncologist

Dr. Scott Goble is an American Board of Radiology Certified Radiation Oncologist. Dr. Goble has been with the St. Joseph Health Cancer Center since 1996. A graduate of the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, he served his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Goble is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society for Radiation Oncology, Texas Medical Association, Brazos-Robertson Co. Medical Society, American College of Radiation Oncology, American College of Radiology, and the Texas Radiological Society. In addition to private practice, Dr. Goble is currently Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine.

 

Physician Members

Terry Jenkins, MD, Medical Oncology / Hematology

Dr. Terry Jenkins is an American Board of Internal Medicine Certified Medical Oncologist, Internist, and Hematologist. He has been on the St. Joseph Health Cancer Center team since 1997 and is co-director of medical oncology at St. Joseph Health Regional Cancer Center and past chairman of the Department of Medicine and cancer committee. Dr. Jenkins earned his Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry at the University of California and is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He served his internal medicine residency at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. In addition to private practice, Dr. Jenkins is currently Clinical Assistant Professor at the Texas A&M University School of Medicine.

Erin Fleener, MD, Medical Oncology / Hematology (Chief of Staff)

Dr. Fleener is a Board Certified Medical Oncologist and has been a member of the St. Joseph Health Cancer Center staff since 2009, currently holding the position of Vice President of the Medical Staff. She is a graduate (M.D.) of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and earned her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University. Dr. Fleener served her residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Fleener is clinical director of the 4th year medical student oncology elective at St. Joseph Health.

Kumud Tripathy, MD, Medical Oncology

Dr. Tripathy finished medical school in his home country of India and has six years of postgraduate training in the United States, evenly divided between internal medicine and oncology. Dr. Tripathy completed his medical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York in 1980. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and has been in practice since 1980. He moved to Bryan in 1982 with his wife and three children and started his practice on Good Friday of the same year.

Kimye Cabrera, MD, General Surgery

Dr. Kimiye Cabrera joined St. Joseph in 2011, after spending six years in Chinle, Arizona. She was a surgeon for the Indian Health Service, where she served as the Medical Director of the hospital’s Breast Clinic. After graduating first in her class at Baylor University, Dr. Cabrera moved on to pursue her career in medicine obtaining her Medical Degree from Oregon Health Science University. Dr. Cabrera completed her general surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Dr. Cabrera is happily married with two children. In her free time she likes to explore different outdoor hobbies.

Michael Steines, MD, General Surgery

Dr. Michael Steines is board certified in general surgery with continuing advanced training in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. He completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is an experienced bariatric surgeon who performs laparoscopic gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding and vertical sleeve gastrectomy as well as revisions. Dr. Steines is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgery and a Member of the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery with the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, and is on the Board of Directors for the St. Joseph Health.

Gary Appelt, MD, Diagnostic Radiology

Dr. Eric Appelt is a board-certified radiologist. He completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and his radiology residency at UT Health Science Center, San Antonio. He also has a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Radiology.

Maria Jimenez, MD, Pathology

Dr. Marcela Jimenez is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. She completed medical school at University El Bosque in Bogota, Colombia. Her post-graduate training includes a surgical oncology fellowship at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and an anatomic and clinical pathology residency where she served as chief resident for Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
