College Station Medical Center Aligns With CHI St. Joseph Health

College Station Medical Center is now affiliated with CHI St. Joseph Health. As advocates for creating healthier communities in the Brazos Valley, we're excited about combining our strengths and expanding our mission-based healthcare services in College Station.

Working as part of our continued partnership with Texas A&M Health Science Center, this expansion will also include all of College Station Medical Associates services, including primary care, adding more care providers to CHI St. Joseph and Texas A&M Health Network.

The facility will be renamed CHI St. Joseph Health College Station Hospital. This hospital is an accredited Chest Pain Center, a certified Primary Stroke Center, and a Joint Commission-accredited joint replacement program.

FAQs

Why did CHI St. Joseph Health acquire CSMC?

The addition of CSMC to CHI’s Texas division honors our deeply held commitment to building strong relationships of lasting value to better serve the people of College Station and the southern Brazos Valley. CHI St. Joseph Health recognizes the strength and potential of our organizations to come together to serve the people and communities who entrust their lives to us.

Will College Station Medical Center’s name change?

Yes, CSMC will adopt a name that is consistent with the rest of CHI St. Joseph Health. It will now be CHI St. Joseph Health College Station Hospital.

Will CSMC become a Catholic hospital?

Yes. CSMC will now be a tax-exempt, nonprofit Catholic hospital. This means funds left after expenses will be used locally to benefit the community. As a Catholic health system, CHI St. Joseph Health continuously works to create healthier communities through education and research initiatives as well as goodwill and the healing ministry of the Church. Adhering to our core values of reverence, integrity, compassion, and excellence, CHI St. Joseph is passionate about creating a welcoming and caring environment for employees, patients, and families.

Will my physician now be included in the CHI St. Joseph and Texas A&M Health Network? (Also referred to as the Brazos Valley Network)

Yes. Providers with College Station Medical Associates who are joining CHI St. Joseph Health Medical Group will be included in the CHI St. Joseph and Texas A&M Health Network. However, there may be a delay in the provider being confirmed in the care plan with your insurance provider. Please call our office or your insurance provider if you have questions.

If I have a procedure/appointment scheduled for after August 1 at College Station Medical Center, will it still be honored? Will the cost stay the same?

Yes, at this time, we are honoring all prior authorizations. There will be variances in the contracted prices that were previously held. They are also highly dependent on the specific service needed. For specific questions, please contact your physician’s office.

If I have a procedure/appointment scheduled for after August 1 at CSMC for a procedure that CHI St. Joseph does not offer, what should I do?

In these instances, we recommend you reach out to your physician’s office. Your healthcare provider can help you navigate alternatives in the market.

What insurance plans will no longer be accepted at College Station Medical Center?

As of August 1, 2019, CSMC will no longer accept new patients with these health plans:

  • Scott & White Health Plan (commercial)

  • Scott & White Medicare

For current patients with these health plans, we will continue accepting these two plans through September 1, 2019. During this time period, we will work with patients to assist them in identifying a new provider who will accept their health plan long term.

What insurance plans are no longer accepted at College Station Medical Associates?

As of August 1, 2019, CSMC will no longer accept new patients with these health plans:

  • Scott & White Health Plan (commercial)

  • Scott & White Medicare Advantage

For current patients with these health plans, we will continue accepting these two plans through September 1, 2019. During this time period, we will work with patients to assist them in identifying a new provider who will accept their health plan long term.

Additionally, College Station Medical Associates locations will no longer accept Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Advantage as of August 1, 2019.

What should I do if you no longer accept my insurance plan?

Patients should contact their insurance provider to understand which providers and facilities are now in network for their care. We do not anticipate a large number of patients falling into this category.

What should I do if I want to continue to have my care at CHI St. Joseph facilities, but my insurance is no longer accepted?

We strongly encourage patients to seek an insurance provider that is accepted. Managed Medicaid can be changed every 90 days. However, commercial plans are often driven by employer offerings, making it more challenging to make changes. In these instances, we encourage patients to communicate their healthcare preferences to their employers.

Will prices increase once College Station Medical Center joins CHI St. Joseph Health?

There will be variances in the contracted prices that were previously held. However, these changes should not be material in nature. They are also highly dependent on the specific service needed. For specific questions, please contact your physician’s office.

My physician isn’t showing up as accepting my health plan at the new CHI St. Joseph Health location? Is he/she still accepting my insurance?

We advise patients to call their insurance provider directly to ensure the physician or facility is included in network coverage. It may take up to 60 days for providers to appear on a plan directory. The facility and providers have been reported to all contracted insurance carriers.

Are there other plans available that allow me to continue receiving my care from College Station Medical Center/CHI St. Joseph Health? Or with my physician at CSMA?

Yes. If you would like to continue using CHI St. Joseph Health at the CSMC location, please review our list of in-network providers. See attachments for a complete list of insurance providers for hospital and clinic locations.
