Tips For Keeping Your Teen Safe On The Road

Teens and the Graduated Driver's License Program

The Graduated Driver’s License Program uses restrictions to keep young drivers safe on the road. Drivers in Texas below the age of 18 have three main regulations: no distractions while driving (including hands-free devices), no more than one passenger younger than 21 who isn’t a family member, and no driving between midnight and 5 a.m. You can learn more about the program and restrictions here.

Rules for Down the Road

Before your teen gets their learner’s permit, sit down with them to share some ground rules. Help them practice these as they work their way toward their license.

Before an emergency occurs, locate your nearest St. Joseph Health emergency room so your teen is prepared when they’re on the road. Each facility in our network of emergency rooms throughout the Brazos Valley follows the same exemplary standards and treatment protocols from St. Joseph Health’s Emergency & Trauma Center, the highest-rated trauma center in a nine-county area.
