Bryan, TX, April 29, 2021—The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit national hospital rating organization aimed at creating positive change in U.S. health care and the nation's premier advocate for hospital transparency, today announced their Spring 2021 Safety Grades, assigning an "A" Hospital Safety Grade to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital and a "B" Hospital Safety Grade to St. Joseph Health College Station Hospital. These grades recognize the hospitals' achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. The Spring 2021 rating marks the second consecutive time Regional Hospital has earned an A rating, while College Station Hospital received an A in fall of 2021.
"The team at St. Joseph Health continues to go above and beyond to care for the Brazos Valley," said Theron Park, St. Joseph Health President and CEO. "Achieving such high grades is a direct reflection of our team's excellence and dedication to delivering safe health care to our community. These grades signify to the communities we serve that St. Joseph Health prioritizes patient safety. It is our goal to keep our patients safe from preventable harm, and I am proud of our team's efforts to do that for the patients we care for."
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns an "A," "B," "C," "D," or "F" grade, based exclusively on hospitals' prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care, to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade's methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
