That is why St. Joseph Regional Health Center is proud to announce being awarded an Excellence in Patient Care award from the Studer Group®. This is the first time that St. Joseph has received this award. The Excellence in Patient Care award is given to first-class organizations that are coached by the Studer Group. To qualify for an award, an organization must demonstrate outstanding performance in patient care. St. Joseph Regional is being recognized for achieving the 90th percentile or higher for “Communication with Nurses” based on patient survey scores for 2014. “Our teams have been working very hard on this initiative and increasing our performance. This award is a wonderful outcome of this hard work,” said Dina Perez-Graham, MSN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. “Our nursing teams worked on several targeted initiatives that focused on enhancing the patient experience in order to improve communication.” Some developments included adjusting the way our team members round to check on patients and modifying the kinds of questions asked when interacting with patients and their families; improving the way we communicate when using white boards in patient rooms to make sure they have the information they need, when they need it; and featuring patient advocacy stories, so our staff can hear the impact they have on our patients and their families and better understand what’s working and where we can continue to improve how we communicate with our patients.
