First Dedicated Heart Failure Clinic in the Brazos Valley

Around 5.5 Million Americans have been diagnosed with heart failure. Another 700,000 are diagnosed every year. Now, patients struggling with heart failure have a specialty clinic dedicated just to them.

The St. Joseph Heart Failure Clinic is the first of its kind in the Brazos Valley and opened in August.

Heart failure, also known as chronic heart failure (CHF), is a condition in which a person’s heart can’t pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. Many conditions that lead to heart failure can’t be reversed. However, properly managing the disease can vastly improve a patient’s quality of life.

St. Joseph’s Heart Failure Clinic seeks to:

• Educate and support

• Improve function and quality of life

Ignoring heart failure can lead to severe symptoms, and can, in turn, lead to hospital stays. Nationally, a link has been shown between hospital admissions among heart failure patients and an increased mortality rate.

Heart failure care is part of St. Joseph’s comprehensive cardiac program. From initial diagnosis, our specialists work together to provide a team approach for each individual’s needs.

Mary Meyers-Marquardt, DNP, APRN, ANP, CHFN sees patients. They may be referred by the hospital, cardiologists, pulmonologists, primary care doctors and other specialists.
