3 Simple Ways to Celebrate Nurses Week

Posted in: Blogs , English

Because the situation surrounding COVID-19 is constantly evolving, some information may not be up to date. Stay informed by following information from your local officials and by visiting the CDC website.

Nurses Week is more important than ever this year. In honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the World Health Organization has declared 2020 the International Year of the Nurse. And with so many of our brave healthcare professionals working tirelessly due to the strain of COVID-19, we are especially thankful for the dedication and compassion nurses bring to our team at St. Joseph Health.

If you’re looking for a few ways to show your thanks to a nurse in your life, try one of these simple ways to let them know how important they are!

  • Send a Little Kindness

Using our Send Kindness Card Generator, you can send a customizable card to someone you know at one of our hospitals, or even leave a message for an entire hospital staff! Take a moment to brighten their day, especially if you’ve received care or you know one of our talented employees.

  • Put Your Heart Into It

Send in a photo of yourself making “heart hands” or submit your favorite heart artwork to ShowUsYourTexasHeart.org. You can also share your images and messages of encouragement on social media using the hashtag #ShowUsYourTexasHeart. We’re collecting these images to show everyone working on the front lines how much we support the work they do to keep us healthy and strong!

  • Fastest Way to the Heart...

There’s lots of ways to help out during this time, but one thing that’s always appreciated is a good meal. As the restaurant industry is one that is particularly vulnerable during this time, you can help both nurses and local businesses by providing meals for healthcare workers.

As The Eagle recently reported, “Many generous residents... sent money so restaurants could provide meals to the medical community, to give them a break from the long hours taking care of the sick. It must have meant a great deal to our doctors and nurses to be able to sit for a bit and enjoy good food.” Next time you order takeout, explore if any of your favorite local restaurants offer ways to help nurses in the Brazos Valley.

Nursing is more than a career — it’s a calling. And in these unprecedented times, the nurses who are going into work each day and risking their health deserve every bit of respect we can give them. So whether it’s your sister, son, friend, or healthcare provider in this fierce line of work, take the time to tell them thank you this week. We are so proud of our St. Joseph Health nursing family!
