Rural Volunteer

The four rural hospitals of St. Joseph Health offer many opportunities for volunteerism. We’re looking to build on our already wonderful Volunteer Program and have a variety of areas where you can invest your time and bring smiles to our residents. 

St. Joseph Health Burleson Hospital

The St. Joseph Health Burleson Hospital Auxiliary is a very active and vital part of St. Joseph Health Burleson Hospital, and our community. The Auxiliary devotes thousands of volunteer hours to the hospital each year.

The Auxiliary operates our Gift Shop, visits with patients and delivers flowers, along with the weekly newspaper. Members volunteer in the ER and Outpatient Registration and assist in Medical Records, when needed. They are a dedicated group of people who help the staff of St. Joseph Health Burleson Hospital carry out our Mission each and every day.

St. Joseph Health Grimes Hospital

The St. Joseph Health Grimes Hospital Ladies Auxiliary is a very active and vital part Grimes Hospital, and our community. The Auxiliary visits with patients and delivers flowers along with the weekly newspaper. They volunteer in the ER and Outpatient Registration and assist in Medical Records when needed.  They are a dedicated group who help the staff of St. Joseph Health Grimes Hospital carry out our Mission each and every day. St. Joseph Health Madison Hospital

The St. Joseph Health Madison Hospital Auxiliary is an important part of our 25-bed Critical Access Hospital. Our Auxiliary has 24 dedicated members who make a difference by volunteering and raising money through our hospital gift shop.

Our volunteers can be sales associates in our Gift Shop, deliver flowers and mail to patients, provide the weekly newspaper to patients, assist the Patient Activities Director, answer the telephone in the Emergency Room, and discharge patients. They are a dedicated group who help the staff of St. Joseph Health Madison Hospital carry out our Mission each and every day.

What can volunteers do?

  • Assist on nursing floors
  • Groups can sponsor monthly birthday parties
  • Bingo callers and helpers
  • Playing games with residents (dominos, cards, table games, puzzles)
  • Music- playing musical instruments such as piano, guitar, etc.
  • Sing-alongs with residents
  • Manicures
  • Crafts
  • Exercises
  • Room visits (reading, talking, listening, etc.)
  • Helping with monthly calendars, newsletters and bulletin boards
  • Decorating for holidays and special events
