Spiritual Volunteer

Spiritual Care is an essential dimension to providing holistic care at St. Joseph Health. As a Catholic Healthcare System, we value the diversity of ways in which faith is expressed and we’re committed to seeing that the faith, beliefs and values of our patients and families are honored.

Our goal is to be aware of each patient’s spirituality and how it influences their healthcare decisions. By doing so, we can bring additional comfort and an increased sense of well-being to every aspect of care.

Our Spiritual Care volunteers visit our patients and their families to offer emotional and spiritual support to ease the stress of being in the hospital.

Spiritual Care volunteer opportunities.

  • Care Partners – Care Partners are specifically trained to visit patient rooms and to engage in meaningful conversation; they minister to patients and families throughout our hospital offering spiritual and emotional support. Care Partners are compassionate individuals excited to serve by showing concern and kindness to all.
  • Eucharistic Ministers – Visit Catholic patients throughout the Regional hospital and Skilled Nursing & Rehab facilities to offer communion to our Roman Catholic patients.
  • Chaplain Internship – A unique opportunity available to the community, graduate students and our volunteers who are looking to broaden their understanding of healthcare and how to minister at the bedside. Scheduling is flexible and training is provided.  Contact our office for more information and to schedule an interview.

Flexible scheduling. Complete training.

Scheduling is flexible, depending on your needs. All volunteers will be trained before they go out on the units on their own.

If you feel called to any of these special ministries, please contact one of the Chaplains listed below to schedule an interview. Approval by the Spiritual Care Department for these assignments is required before you can begin your volunteer orientation process.
